Unify

A few months before the end of 2022, I heard the word "Unify."

I knew this would be my word for 2023, but I didn't realize at the time how corporate it would be.

"Unify" means to "make or become united, uniform, or whole."

Unify is a beautiful verb.

The process to unify isn't always as beautiful, but the result is.

The themes of "unify" and "Come to the Table" have been weaving in and through my life for years. As I looked back through old journal entries over the last several years, there have been many instances where the themes "unify," "unity," "gathering," "table," "come to the table" were already present.

Isn't that interesting? How could it be right in front of our faces all along?

When the timing is right, it comes to our attention.

So with the verb "Unify" for 2023, that means there is disunity and unifying that needs to take place.

If we think about "Unify" corporately, it seems like an insurmountable task.

Offense, jealousy, lack, and competition have run rampant in many types of relationships, friendships, families, homes, churches, places of work, neighborhoods, cities, and nations.

The prerequisite for unity is humility.

The work of unity is hard and messy. Not everyone is willing to engage in the process. It's easier to remain separate. The work of unity requires a lot from us.

It requires us to set aside our offenses, preconceived notions, old ways of doing things, and traditions of men. It requires us to set aside our differences and come together.

With that being said it does not mean we tolerate abuse or mistreatment or that we shouldn't have healthy boundaries.

It also requires us to do the personal, deep, internal, hard heart work. Thankfully there are great resources to help us on our internal and formational journey. I'm sure you've heard the phrase, "healed people, heal people." We are all in process for the rest of our lives.

Just think about it...if more people were willing to go through their own process for healing and growth and were transformed...then those transformed people became agents of transformation in there spheres of influence, and came together with other transforming people...imagine the impact and change that would occur!

There is a great need for unity, restoration, reconciliation, and renewal on so many levels. This is a topic with many layers. This post only scratches the surface. There are many more conversations to be had.

As the saying goes, "Be the change you want to see in the world."
